My First Entry

"Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all is a form of planning."
      - Erma Bombeck

I have a dream to have a career in the Beauty and Wellness Industry. I'm taking the beginning steps towards making that dream a reality and will be blogging about my experience. I am sure that there are going to be lots of ups and downs but I know what it is that I want and I will do everything in my power to make my dream a reality. This dream of mine started in High School and now at the age of 24, I am finally ready to start my journey. Here's my story....

In High School, I used to imagine being a professional makeup artist in Hollywood or a famous hair stylist. I would beg my friends to let me shape their unruly eyebrows or to let me style their hair. Though they often let me, I still couldn't get enough and often would use myself as my mannequin. I used to go home after school and spend hours trying out new makeup tricks and figuring out how to perfect my curls with my curling iron. Before I knew it, it'd be night and time for me to go to bed. I wouldn't mind waking up the next morning, for it was another day where I would be able to perform what I considered to be my art and also be able to display it to the world.
My classmates used to ask me why it was that I would take so much time to get ready every morning. I heard plenty of my fellow classmates, especially girls, comment about how ridiculous they thought it was that people would spend so much time to get ready for school and wondering who it was that these people were trying to impress. I suppose I would have been one of those girls that that comment was directed towards. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, I was simply trying to express myself through what I considered to be art. Every morning, my face was my blank canvas that I could paint a masterpiece upon and the hair was the best accessory I could possibly wear.

I did not go to Beauty School right out of High School. I was influenced by the societal pressures that after graduating from High School the next step in life is to attend college. I justified this to myself by thinking, "Well.. At least before my job I can still do my own hair and makeup." I am someone who is genuinely interested in people and want the best for everyone, so I figured that a major in Psychology would be a perfect fit. I thought that I found my niche in life, that I wanted to be a counselor, but when I actually was put in that role while being a part of a Crisis Hotline, I realized that that was not what I wanted in life. Since I had already invested so much time and money towards my Bachelor's degree, I looked at other areas of study that I could go into for graduate school. Nothing I saw (and I searched long and hard) struck my interest. I only had one thing that I was truly passionate about in life: Cosmetology. That is when I knew it was time to go back to school.

I am beyond excited about starting my new journey and couldn't be happier with my choice to go into Cosmetology. I can confidently and honestly say that I am looking forward to what the future holds!
